Campbell Station~ “Q&A”!!!

  1.    Hello Campbell Station, can you each tell me a little bit about yourselves before you became a country music trio?

C: I have been singing since I could talk and writing songs since I was in the 7th grade. The first song I wrote was called “Leave Some Boys for the Rest of Us”. haha! My songwriting has improved since then. I have always loved being a lead singer, but when I heard how Elaina’s voice blended with mine, I just knew we both had to be the lead singers of Campbell Station.

E: I too have always been a singer, though I used to be super shy and only sing alone in my bathroom ha! It took a lot of encouragement from family and friends, plus practice and shows with Campbell Station for me to become more comfortable on stage. I grew up in GA, went to MTSU (where I met my husband), and I’ve always been a dog lover. We adopted a German Shepherd named Bo! I’ve always loved harmonizing, and I love how you can experiment with it to add a whole other layer to a song.

S: I grew up in the north Georgia area with Elaina and have always had a love for music as long as I can remember. I started playing bass guitar when I was 13, and from there just taught myself how to play guitar, drums, and keyboards by listening to my favorite albums. I’ve always played in bands and written songs since those early, but I really started to pursue it professionally when I moved to Nashville 7 years ago and even more so when we became a trio.

  1.    How did you guys form your group and how did you come up with your group name?

Seth and Elaina have been friends since they were 10, and Elaina and Campbell have known each other since they were 14, although they truly connected as friends in their early 20’s.  We all were working on music separately, sometimes on solo stuff and sometimes for other artists. One night, we all went out for Elaina’s birthday, and that is when Seth and Campbell met. We all went to jam back at Campbell’s place. It was so much fun, and we fit together so naturally. We just knew that we had to do music as a trio. As for the name, Elaina’s maiden name is also Campbell, so we knew we wanted to have something with “Campbell” in it since it means so much to us as a family name. We came up with “Station” because we are all originally from the Chattanooga area, where the Chattanooga Choo Choo is famous.

  1.    Who are some of your musical icons?

C: Miranda, Marren Morris, Lake Street Dive, Taylor Swift, The Beatles

E: Growing up: Shania Twain, Paramore, Copeland, Nickel Creek, Beyonce, … Current loves: Caitlyn Smith, Maren Morris, …still Beyonce

S: The Beatles, Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Tom Petty are the reasons I picked up a guitar.

  1.    What is the story behind your new single “Sweet Tea?”

We wrote “Sweet Tea” with our dear friend, Chris Housman. Chris came into the write with the idea for this song, and honestly, we just all ran with it.  It only took us about an hour to complete. It is such a fun, upbeat summer jam. It’s inspired by southern summertime, activities that make us feel happy and refreshed, and that sweet feeling that comes from simply hanging out with someone you love. We are really excited about the opportunity to share it with everyone!

  1.    Where do you guys see your music careers in the next 5 to 10 years?

That is a hard question because the music business tends to be so unpredictable. But it makes us happy that we get to play together and share our songs with people. We definitely want to keep writing songs, growing together as writers and musicians, recording songs and challenging ourselves. We’d love to continue going on tour, putting out music we’re proud of, and opening for bigger and bigger acts. We are excited to see where life takes us!

  1.    Is there anything new coming up with your music for the rest of  2018?

We have a lot of awesome shows and festivals coming up. You can check out the details at www.campbellstationmusic.com. We also are continuing to write and record more songs, so stay tuned!

  1.    If you guys could sing a duet with a famous singer or group who would it be and why?

C: I would have to say Miranda Lambert or Little Big Town. Maybe we could just hop on their Bandwagon tour with them! 🙂 I respect them all so much as artists, and I love how they’ve remained humble throughout their careers.

E: I agree! I think we all love Miranda and Little Big Town. And Kacey Musgraves. And Ed Sheeran.

S: For me, I’d love to work with Robert Plant or Valerie June. I think we could come up with something really unique and different with either one of them!

  1.    What is one of your favorite quotes?

C: I’m a big fan of the show Parks and Rec, and Ron Swanson says something that’s silly but that stuck with me: “Don’t half-ass many things. Whole-ass one thing.” I am extremely passionate about Campbell Station, and I am fully committed to its success.

S: I had a Music Theory teacher in high school that read this quote to me when encouraging to pursue music, and it’s something I think about daily. “I learned this, at least, by my experiment: that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours” – Henry David Thoreau (from Walden)
