Steven Cade~ Q&A!!!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself before you became a country musician?

I was a performer in an alternative rock band in California, and was able to tour nationally and gain recognition as a performer. I have previously been signed under two different record labels, and and toured all over the US, Canada and Mexico.

What made you want a career in country music?

I was born and raised in Houston, Texas and I lived very close to a venue called Mickey Gillies. I was exposed to a lot of country music growing up in the South. I was influenced by a lot of different acts like Mel Tillies, Charlie Pride, and Charlie Daniels. I was basically raised in country music listening to people like Willie Nelson and a band called the Outlaws, which was a Texas band that had Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and all the other artists that inspired me.

What is the background story behind your band new single Pinky Promise?

There were many times when I would be working and my daughter would come up and say, “Hey, daddy, can you come outside and play Barbies with me?” I’d answer “I’m really busy right now and can’t at the moment.” She would reply “Well do you pinky promise that you can later?” If my answer was yes she would reply, “You can’t break a pinky promise.”

That moved my heart so much that it inspired me to write a song about it. I think this song will inspire other fathers, and serve as a great message to all parents.

How did you come up with the title “Pinky Promise?”

It is based on what my daughter had said, “Daddy, do you pinky promise?”

Were there any other producers that worked on the song with you?

This song was produced by Ily Toshinsky in Nashville, Tennessee at Station West.

What is your recording process like when creating and making new music?

I start by writing the song and recording it on my phone as a rough draft. Then, I make sure the arrangement of the song is set to the key and tempo with a solid melody and cadence. Then, I get some weigh-in from any writers that I’m friends with, my family, and close friends. Once I am finished, I send it to either a producer or production team to record my song in the studio.

How would describe your music in 3-5 words?

  • Energetic
  • Positive
  • Clean country Music

Who are your musical icons?

Elivis Presley and Keith Urban

What is one of your favorite quotes?

“Trust the Lord with all your heart, and lean not your own understanding, acknowledge him in all your ways and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5:6 )
