Lisa Mary~ Q&A

1.     Hello Lisa, can you tell me a little bit about yourself before you became a country musician?

Music has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. I went to performing arts school and even then I always had a guitar in hand and a pen and paper nearby.

2.     How have you grown as a singer in the last 3 years?

3 years ago I released my first album and opened up for a childhood idol of mine, Toby Keith, but within two weeks of that happening I was involved in a horrific car accident that completely changed my life and the way I choose to live it today. Im not the same artist or the same person I was 3 years ago. That was the darkest time of my life. I had to take the time to re-learn how to use the muscles in my body, It forced me to take a step back, look at myself and discover who I was. I’ve matured and grown so much as a person and I think my music and songwriting has grown right along with me.

3.     What was the first country concert you ever attended?

The first country concert I remember going to was Tom McGraw and Faith Hill. I was 7 years old, I went with my mom. Tim was my first celebrity crush (as crazy as it sounds considering he’s old enough to be my dad). We had a blast!

4.     What is the background story behind your brand new single “Under One Roof?”

My boyfriend and I decided to take a huge step in our personal lives and purchase a house together. I like to say this song can came from a place of excitement, fear and optimism. Really, I went through every emotion possible and poured it all into a song that I’m super proud of.

5.     How would you describe your music in 3 to 5 words?

Personal, relatable and full of emotion

6.     What are a few of your favorite venues or events to play at?

My favorite venue I’ve ever played is hands down the Grand Ole Opry. My debut was the best night of my life up to this point and a night I’ll never forget. Being in the circle felt magical. I also love CMA Fest! I live for the caous that IS CMA week! I love the opportunity to connect with fans from across the globe. It will always be one my favorite events to participate in!

7.     What is your recording process like when you make new music?

The studio is always a blast! I’ll talk specially about my experience with recording Under One Roof. It was myself, my producer Kevin Sharpe and my co-writer on this song, Greg Stryker. We always have a blast working together! The process is typically music first, lead vocals and then harmonies. When Greg and I wrote this song we envisioned a melody with a heart beat type of sound, like “the heart of a home” and we brought it to life. When it comes to recording vocals, I’m a perfectionist! If there’s a word I sang that I didn’t like or if the verse sounds great but there was one line that didn’t flow well with the rest or didn’t have enough emotion behind it, I’ll take my time and record it again and again until I get it right, and this song was no exception to that! I’m very proud of the way it turned out!

8.     What do you like to do in your free time when you are not working on music?

I don’t have a ton of free time, but when I do I love catching up with friends or watching a good movie.

9.     What is one of your favorite quotes?

I have this quote hanging up in multiple areas of my home. “Follow your arrow where ever it points” from Kacey Musgraves song “Follow Your Arrow”.

10.  Is there anything else you would like to share?

My brand new single Under One Roof is available to purchase or stream on all major music platforms! My website is www.lisamarymusic.com and all of my social media handles are @LisaMaryMusic
