Adam Rutledge~ Q&A!!!

1. Hello Adam, can you tell us all a little bit about yourself before you became a country musician?

I played basketball in high school and had committed to play in college but quit to pursue music. We won a state championship my senior year and to this day that season was one of the very best times in my life. I was in a southern/classic rock band before I started playing country music. We played Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, that kind of stuff, and we played ALL THE TIME. Then I heard Keith Urban’s Golden Road record and fell in love with country music.

2. Who are some of your musical icons?

Lynyrd Skynyrd and KISS are the big 2. “Freebird” changed my life and made me want to play guitar. Soon after that, my dad took me to see KISS and that took my obsession with playing music to a whole new level. I’ve pretty much had a one-track mind totally focused on getting to that level since then.

3. What made you want a career in country music?

When I heard Keith Urban’s Golden Record, I fell in love with the sound, the songs and the guitar playing. I loved how the guitar was central to his sound. That REALLY made him stand out to me. I always envisioned the same thing for myself.

4. What is the background story behind your brand new single “Unwind?”

My wife came home from a rough day at work, and I could see the second she came through the door that she was fried. Part of her job is HR and this was when the COVID thing was really getting crazy so understandably she needed a little extra love from me. So I did what any good husband would do and I helped her relax, helped take her mind off of it, helped her unwind.

5. How would you describe your music in 3 to 5 words?

One word….”Edgy.”

6. What are some of your venues or events to play at?

Under normal circumstances, we play lots of festivals in the summertime and during the winter we play big clubs mostly opening for larger acts. They’re all fun, but some of those club gigs can be CRAZY fun!

7. What is your recording like when creating new music?

It starts off with texts or voice memos back and forth between Jeff Smith (executive producer, co-writer) and I. Then I’ll open up Logic Pro X and start building. Most of it is done between my home studio in VA and Jeff’s home studio in Nashville. We share the session back and forth and FaceTime, and I REALLY like doing it this way.

8. When you are not working on your music what do you like to do in your free time?

I love Virginia Tech football. I’m a diehard fan, so during the season I’m all in on my Hokies. I also play in a KISS tribute band KISS AMERICA. We wear full costume and makeup with full KISS style production.

9. What is one of your favorite quotes?

“Get all you can out of EVERY SINGLE DAY.” – My Dad

10. Is there anything else you would like to share?

Just that I’m super appreciative of you taking the time to chat with me and I hope everyone likes “Unwind” and that it excites them for the upcoming full-length album that drops Sept 18!
