1. Hello Lindsay, can you tell us all a little bit about yourself become you became a country musician? 2. What made you want a career in country music?
I’m a Canadian singer & songwriter and I’ve been singing since I was three years old, and writing music from the age of 8.
I was 16 when I got serious into music, and 16-22 was very much so an exploration period of bouncing around to different styles, writing and recording lots of music, performing all around Toronto, and really just finding out who I am as a person, and as an artist.
I wasn’t exposed to country music at all until my mid 20’s. I grew up in a big city, and there weren’t any country stations in my city. But when I started listening to country, it quickly became my obsession.
I fell in love with the stories that are told in country songs, and the realness of it. I started attending 10-20 country concerts a year, and it inspired me so much. I knew when I was ready to start making music again, I only wanted to record country. It was the most natural and obvious choice in the world to me.
My heart eventually led me to Nashville. And I had never even been before. But I packed up my car, and my dog Kika and I made the move down in 2019.
I got so lucky to connect with some amazing musicians and I quickly started recording my first country EP. I’ve released the first two singles, with plans for 3 more to come out this year!
My first single racked up over 150,000 digital streams in 67 countries in it’s first 3 months, and both songs are building major momentum. It’s the best feeling in the world to be connecting with new fans, and really knowing that I’m doing what I was put on this earth to do!
3. Who are some of your musical icons?
I grew up dancing and singing along to the cassette tapes my mom had around the house. And quickly Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Linda Ronstadt became my early inspirations.
These days I find myself being so inspired by Maren Morris and Carrie Underwood.
Carrie Underwood because when she takes the stage, she shows more power and confidence than anyone else I’ve ever seen on stage, and trust me I’ve seen a LOT of musicians live. She owns so much who she is, and you can see and feel it when you’re in her presence.
Maren Morris, because she has carved out her own unique path in country music, and really hasn’t tried to mimic the other popular songs you hear on the radio. She has stayed so incredibly authentic and consistently brought her own unique sound to the table, for the world to fall in love with.
4. What is the background story behind your brand new single “Country Music Feels Like Home?”
I wrote ‘Country Music Feels Like Home’ about a search for a place that truly feels like home, and the discovery that it’s not always found in a place, but a sound, a feeling, a vibe. And for me it was coming home to country music and the move to Nashville that became the home I had been searching for, for such a long time. This song is a reflection of that journey & discovery.
The journey home for me, was an owning of who I truly am, and making music on my own terms. When I decided to truly follow my heart and pursue my love of country music, it was like the path to Nashville was magically paved for me in my heart, and I knew I had to take a leap even though I had never even been here before I decided to pack up my car and move to another country on a whim!
Everything fell into place after moving to town and I immediately knew that I’d found myself where I was meant to be, doing what I was born to do!
This song is about coming home to who you really are. Wherever you may find yourself. And there’s no place on earth that can make you feel truly at home, until you find it for yourself within you. But once you do, it’s the best feeling in the entire world!
5. What was your recording process like when creating new music?
I had an amazing musical partner to create this first batch of songs with. Sergio Sanchez who’s the producer on the tracks, was also my co-writer.
It was honestly such a fun process. I had a ton of song ideas I had been working on for quite a while. And we were great about taking these ideas, and building on them until they became really beautiful songs.
It was so much fun working with such incredible musicians on the tracks and learning so much from the entire process of recording the album.
6. How would you describe your music 3 to 5 words?
Real, authentic, soulful, emotion driven
7. What are a few of your favorite venues or events to play at?
There’s so many incredible venues in Nashville I’m dying to play at when the pandemic is over and it’s safe to do so.
8. What is one of your favorite quotes?
Be who you are, because there’s no one in the world who can do it better than you!
