- Hi Ashlyn, can you tell me a little bit about yourself, before you became a singer/songwriter?
Hi Danaille, Nice to meet you! Absolutely! I was born in Nashville, TN and grew up around music. My parents are both in the music industry and are extremely musical themselves, so it has always been a part of my life as well as my little brother’s. Early on while in school, I played sports competitively and even took dance and cheerleading but during my middle and high school years, that passion shifted towards music and I became more involved in that and even participated in school plays like Grease,Hairspray, etc.
- How did you become a fan of country music and when did you know you wanted a career in it?
Having parents involved in the music industry, I was raised on Country music so I have been a fan as long as I can remember. When I was about 14, I remember going to CMA Fest and had the opportunity to meet Taylor Swift (who was one of my favorites). The moment I met her and saw how down to earth and approachable she was yet also able to touch so many people with her music, doing what she loved to do, I knew that is what I wanted to do. Shortly after, that is when I wrote my first song. As I got older with demands of graduating high school and beginning college, I drifted away from my own music for a while questioning what I wanted to do with my life. During that time, I missed making music and knew that music was what I was supposed to do. I just think it is so amazing how one song can impact so many people on so many different levels.
- Who are some of your musical icons?
Taylor Swift, Hillary Scott, Kelsea Ballerini, Colbie Caillat, Sam Hunt, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Tomlin, Ben Rector, Thomas Rhett and most recently, Devin Dawson
- What is the story behind the title track of your EP, “Somethin’ Bout a Song?”
It’s a fun, lighthearted song that incorporates two of my favorite things, music and being in love. It is about falling in love all because of music and how a song was able to bring two people together. I believe that music is magical and has the power to do and make you feel a lot of different things.
- Where do you see your career in the next 5 to 10 years?
Definitely doing music! Hopefully, taking it to a whole new level and growing as an artist and a writer. My ultimate goal is to move people with my songs and to make a difference. I want to have the opportunity to help people though my music with whatever success I may achieve.
- Is there anything new coming up with your music for the rest of 2018?
LOTS more songs, to write, to record, to perform and to share with the world! I want to take my music to a whole new level and continue growing as an artist and a writer.
- If you could sing a duet with a famous singer/group who would it be and why?
That’s hard but probably Sam Hunt or Devin Dawson because I love their music and we are different enough that I think it would be really cool.
- What is one of your favorite quotes?
“I may not be where I intended go, but I am exactly where I was meant to be.” Honestly not even sure who said this. I found it on Pinterest years ago and it has stuck with me ever since!
- Is there anything else you would like to share?
