1. Hi Lisa, can you tell me a little bit about yourself, before you became a country singer/songwriter
2. How did you become a fan of country music and when did you know you wanted a career in it?
I grew up listening to country music. My grandparents introduced me to classic country like Loretta Lynn and Johnny Cash when I was little and my mom got me into 90’s, 2000’s and more modern country music as I got older, it stuck with me.
I was 16 when I started considering music my job, but in a way, I feel like I’ve always known that I wanted a career in music. I remember in elementary school my class was getting ready for career day and we had to write a paper on what we wanted to do when we grew up, and I wrote down that I wanted to be a singer and songwriter. My teacher called me up to her desk and asked me if I had a career choice that was more practical. I was really let down by that, I was so sure of my answer. The night of my Grand Ole Opry debut, I was in rehearsal standing in the circle and that memory came to mind. A wave of emotions came over me thinking how far I’ve come sense then.
3. What is your favorite tune off your latest album “Everyone Has a Story to Tell?”
Defiantly “Whiskey Tears”! I went through a really tough breakup and I was at the point where I was ready to move on. I consider this album like a small reflection into my life, filled with real life stories and things I was going through when we were writing the record. That song was is different from anything I’ve ever co-written or taken on before and I’m so proud of it! Ironically the night I recorded that song I walked into a coffee shop and met my boyfriend. Life works that way sometimes, and it makes great writing material!
4. Who are some of your musical icons?
I grew up listening to Loretta Lynn, she is defiantly my idol, but aside from her, I really look up to Kacey Musgraves, Carrie Underwood, Chris Stapleton and John Mayer.
5. Is there anything new coming up with your music for the rest of 2018?
I’m working on new music to share with my fans! I’ve got some great shows coming up on my tour, and I’ll also be heading back to CMA Fest in Nashville this year, I’ll be doing a meet and greet at Fan Fair X which I’m super excited about!
6. Where do you see your music career in the next 5 to 10 years?
I’ll continue to grow as an artist. I hope to sign a recording contract in the future. I want to make an impact on country radio and inspire people.
7. If you could sing a duet with a famous singer or group who would it be?
Doing a duet with Carrie Underwood would be a dream come true! I feel like our styles and voices would blend really well together.
8. What is one of your favorite quotes?
“Follow your arrow wherever it points”- Kacey Musgraves. This is the quote I live by! When I graduated from high school I made a big decision to dedicate all my time and energy into music and had I not I don’t know where I’d be right now or if I’d be happy, I think I would always wonder “what if”. I’m a firm believer in following your dreams. If you are dedicated, you can do anything you put your mind to.
