1.     Hi Kerry, can you tell me a little bit about yourself, before you became a country singer/songwriter?

I grew up in Oregon. Always wanted to be a baseball player when I grew up but ended up with some knee surgeries that put and end to the dream and opened a door to the modeling industry. Ended up having a good amount of success with brands like Armani and Ralph Lauren and worked along side some cool people like Kate Moss.

In doing that, you spend a lot of time by yourself in hotel rooms all around the world- and while most people assume that I was probably out doing touristy stuff and making friends, instead I was more of an introvert and so I bought a guitar off craigslist and was determined to learn to play and write songs. Fast forward 10 years and here I am in Nashville 🙂

2.     How did you become a fan of country music and how did you know you wanted a career in it?

My father always played country music in his truck so that’s all I knew and when I inherited it, a 1975 Chevy LUV nicknamed The LUV Truck, I never thought to change the channel so it was either listen to KUPL Country or the Pink Floyd Another Brick In The Wall Cassette that I couldn’t remove.

As far as making it a career, it was a very slow process of writing very terrible songs and my poor friends putting up with me and encouraging me as I learned till eventually it switched and they all started encouraging me to move to Nashville and make something of it.

3.     Who are some of your musical icons?

Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, Steve Earle, Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash. I think this list could probably just keep going for pages but we’ll stop there.

4.     What is the story behind your newest single “You’re My Person?”

It’s a title that came about from Stephen Barker Liles of Love and Theft. We were sitting in the room and he said him and his wife were watching Grays Anatomy and Cristina Yang always says it. Writing the rest of the song just took us talking first hand about our wives.

5.     What was your experience on being a cast member of Music City on CMT?

It been a fun and scary opportunity that I’ve been glad to be a part of. There’s still a couple more episodes to watch so we’ll see. You never know what parts of my life they’re going to share with the world till Thursday.

6.     Is there anything coming new up with your music for the rest of 2018?

Yes LOTS. I have a video coming out for You’re My Person and a new single coming out called Outlaw that I wrote with Brooke Eden on the show. After that it’s hitting the road!

7.     Where do you see yourself in the next 5 to 10 years with your music?

The goal is to just keep making music I love hoping that fans love it too and we’ll all keep celebrating the journey together at every show.

8.     If you could sing a duet with a famous singer or group who would it be and why?

This will sound funny but probably Justin Timberlake just because my wife is such a fan and I know that if she saw me on stage with Justin, for her, that would be the ceiling for my career. And watching that in her eyes would be priceless.

9.     What is one of your favorite quotes?

“Heroes are remembered, but legends never die,” from the movie, Sandlot.
