Katrina Burgoyne~ “Q&A”!!!

Katrina-Burgoyne.jpg1.     Hi Katrina, can you tell me a little bit about yourself, before you became a country singer/songwriter?

I grew up in a small town called Gunnedah in regional NSW Australia. I’ve always played an instrument and made music, it brought so much joy to my life. However it wasn’t until I was 9-10 my family started going on BIG camping trips, we traveled through OUTBACK Australia sleeping on the side of the road in tents exploring our sunburnt country. I picked up the guitar so I could sing around the camp fire on our travels.
I’ve been fortunate enough to only have worked a few casual jobs but have made my living from music for over 10 years now. I’m very lucky.

2.     How did you become a fan of country music and how did you know you wanted a career in it?

One word… SHANIA. I was obsessed. I wasn’t a country music fan until Shania Twain. My passion for writing songs began the day I taught myself two chords (Of a Shania Twain song) on the guitar. I had no clue what I was doing, but I was passionate and driven. It sparked something in me. My first song inspired me to write a whole albums worth to give my family a homemade gift for christmas. I wrote 8 songs and recorded them on my cassette player, layering the vocals, making a drum beat with my guitar and I even added a recorder. The tape was called “Goodbye 2000” and still sits on the top of the tape pile at my Nanna’s house.

3.     What is the background story behind your latest single “Bridges: “The Demo Session?”

“Bridges” is such a new song, it wasn’t even written more then a month ago. When I demoed it after my writing session I just felt like I wanted to share it. Bridges was inspired after a conversation with a man who said he only ever thinks about the women his hurt and could never have another chance with. The melody came while I was noodling around on the piano and my cowriters Sydney Maxine and Reed Waddle ran with it.
The Demo Sessions is a part of a new project purely to bring music to my supporters that have followed me on this journey of moving the the USA. The last few years my income have gone into traveling or moving to the USA I haven’t been able to record new music… then I thought… you know what, there is no excuse. So here I am sharing acoustic songs recorded in my apartment.

4.     Who are some of your musical icons?

The People that inspired me to start playing and writing songs were Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow and Kasey Chambers.

5.     Where do you see yourself in the next 5 to 10 years with your music?

In the next 5-10 years I would really love to make an impact. Connecting with music lovers and really establish myself here in the USA.

6.     If you could sing a duet with a famous singer or group who would it be and why?

Keith Urban… Aussie duet.

7.     Is there anything new coming up with your music for the rest of 2018?

I plan to release a new single later this year. I haven’t commercially released anything for a long time (apart from the demo sessions) and grow my fan base in the USA.

8.     What is one of your favorite quotes?

“Those that know you, love you those that dont assume”. This has resonated with me for a long time. It’s easy to judge people or feel judged and insecure. But the people that know you deeply enough to have the knowledge to judge, tend to love you.

9.     Is there anything else you would like to share?

Not really. Just a big shout out, I love making new friends in this country. Jump on my socials and reach out. I love sharing this experience with people.
