Jessica Mack~ “Q&A”!!!

Unknown

1.     Hi Jessica, can you tell me a little bit about yourself, before you became a country singer/songwriter?

I have always been super family oriented. Grew up in a big, close-knit family in Little Rock, AR where my cousins were like siblings. I was raised in the church and sang solos in the choir. I was adventurous and kept my parents on their toes- rebellious in dumb ways, like climbing water towers and getting on roofs of random buildings. I cheered in high school and college. I liked being active, but didn’t play many sports. My faith has always been a priority, without Jesus I don’t know where I’d be. People are also my passion. I love hearing people’s stories and trying to be of some encouragement, even if it’s just listening to them. Also- dad jokes and puns are my jam!!

2.     How did you become a fan of country music and how did you know you wanted a career in it?

I’m from the south and my parents were always listening to the country stations in their cars, so I grew up on Garth, Reba and Shania. It’s in my roots! And I’ve just always wanted to be a singer- whether it was country/pop/christian- I just knew singing was what I was made to do. I’d watch music videos and award shows as a little girl and re-enact the performances.

3.     Who are some of your musical icons?

Reba, Dolly, Shania, Tori Kelly, Lauren Daigle… all the girls! And Garth Brooks too.

4.     What is your favorite song off your new album “One Love?”

SUCH A HARD QUESTION! Maybe Lay it Down. I love the message and I enjoy singing and dancing to it. It’s my reminder song- that all of my music/dreams- they belong to Jesus and when I “Lay it Down” I will get the best possible outcome, because He knows best!

5.     What is the background story behind your song  “Mixtape?” (This is one of my favorites off your new album!!)

Thank you so much! That song has a groove to it. I wrote it with my talented friend, Kristina Kidd. Her and I got into the writing room and I believe she had the first few lines. We took those and thought it’d be neat to develop the song into a tribute song about Love. There are so many songs that make you think of your special someone. So it was a fun idea to try to reference some of the popular love songs and call it Mixtape!

6.     What was your experience as being a cast member in the new show “Music City CMT?”

It was fun and exciting. I love new experiences- especially new experiences with friends! I never expected something like this to happen, but I am very grateful and I’m trying to enjoy the moment. The cameras took time to adjust to, but it didn’t take long to get used to them. The hardest thing was being completely vulnerable while knowing hundreds of thousands of people would be watching and judging my every move and word.

7.     Where do you see your music career in the next 5 to 10 years?

Hopefully more developed with a wider audience.

8.     If you could sing a duet with a famous singer or group who would it be and why?

Another very difficult question. I think it would be such an honor to sing with Garth Brooks. He is such an icon and I think we could harmonize nicely together.

9.     What is one of your favorite quotes?

Self confidence is a super power; when you believe in yourself, magic happens!

10. Is there anything else you would like to share?

Just that I hope people will check out my album, One Love and tune into Music City!

Whiskey Lee Design~ Q&A!!!

  1. Hi Brandi, can you me a little bit of background about your company “Whiskey Lee Desgin?”How did you decide on the name “Whiskey Lee Design“ and was there any other names were going to choose instead?
The name Whiskey Lee was my only choice – it’s actually my nickname since I was a baby-   Several relatives had names for me since my name is Brandi Lynn,   I was called Brandywine  and was called Whiskey Lee by all my uncles daily.  So I always thought it was cool and also the name is unique to me so never to be confused with anyone else,
I started making myself a few small pieces like a wallet and a few clutches,  which I still carry daily, people started requesting to buy them so I kind of kept that on the back burner for a few months..
Then in 2013  when I was 42 I got diagnosed with Breast cancer- this wasn’t my first bout with cancer- I got cancer when I was 31. An extremely rare kind, I had surgeries and treatments and made it through –  then at 42 I was diagnosed with 2 cancers  skin and Breast,
So when I was home in 2013 dealing with major surgery one after the next, doctors visits treatments etc I decided I needed to do something to make money –  so I started making bags to sell – started off slow and fit it in to hospital stays etc…
Once I started feeling better 7 major surgeries later it just started to take off, and since my passion is in designing it was an easy choice –
Whiskey Lee Designs was born into a full time full blown business
  2. Where do you see “Whiskey Lee Design” in the next 5 to 10 years?
As far as where I’d like to be in the future- honestly doing the same thing, I’m single so to be able to say I support myself (and my dogs) with the business is pretty cool, very blessed for the success I have…I’ve worked so many jobs over the years as well as owning my own boutique- and this is by far the best decision I have made
I love working from home. It allows  me to hang out with my 5 rescue dogs, So I’d love to be able to stay healthy enough to be doing this in 10 years– I couldn’t really ask for anything more .
  3. Has any celebrities worn any of your items?
As far as celebrities,  well not officially, I did however make fringed jeans for Lady Gaga, although I never received any photos, it was pretty cool to be asked by Wrangler to make them for one of her videos. A couple of professional rodeo super stars have my bags
Professional world record holder  barrel racer Taylor Jacob has one of my back number bag. As well as pro steer wrestler Dakota Eldridge – asked me to make a back number bag for his mom
  4. What has been some of your best selling items?
I make several different styles of bags and they all are very popular
But I would have to say my “big bags” seem to be the most popular  just because they are all so detailed and so unique – they tend to stand out  from the design to the major fringe on all my bags
  5. In 2018 is there anything new coming up for your company?
There is always something new coming up but 2018. I will introduce a few more new styles  at least in the   immediate future- 2018 is the year I moved into my brand new barn renovation studio-   A much needed move out of my house and into the barn.
  6. What is the first item you made or sold for your company?                                           The very first item was an alligator wallet I made my self.. that I still carry .
  7. What is one of your favorite quotes?
I have a ton of favorite quotes, depending on the mood I’m in or the  company I’m in,  nothing transformative or enlightening  just cool stuff I like,  I tend to go with …as the ancient Tibetan philosophy states-“Don’t Start None – won’t be none.”

Whiskey Lee Designs~ “Bio”!!!

whiskey_buffwhitefringe.jpg

WhiskeyLeeDesigns is a brand started by owner Brandi Baxter. The company was named after Baxter’s nickname. Baxter’s love to design and create handbags/clutches and cuff bracelets. She enjoys using different and hard to find leathers and exotics materials like crocodile alligator and python. For the cuffs Baxter loves to use old-fashioned findings all OOAK and as well as physically shed deer horns. Personally, Baxter also loves having a great bag to carry that will last for a long time and as well as a cool unique bag that nobody else would have. So instead she decided to create her own bag, with that came the start to make each bag different in its own way.

Whiskey Trail Q&A!!!

s

1.     Hi Heidi & Jake can you two tell me a little about yourselves before you became a country music duo?

Heidi- I grew up in Duluth Mn. I started singing in my parents church. Being the pastors kid had its perks of being able to take the stage whenever I wanted. I sang for the first time publicly when I was 5 & didn’t stop from there. In middle school I wanted to become a music teacher. I knew that music was the only thing I was meant to do & I didn’t think singing professionally would ever be an option for me. I went to high school & joined choir…. WHICH killed me.. honestly. I will be the first to admit I’m a little bit of an attention whore. Sitting in a class learning to blend my voice with others was hell to me. I loved to harmonize but I wanted my voice to be heard loud & proud and not with the other five girls standing next to me. I ended up quitting after my choir teacher said I would never become a music teacher because I didn’t play piano. For years I didn’t sing unless my best friend Abbey made me after a couple shots of vodka. Even then I only sang the same two songs over & over again because I was to scared of peoples reaction. I then had a friend who said there was a band that was looking for female lead vocalist. I had never put thought into being in a band but the thought of making money while doing what I loved sounded amazing. I had never felt as alive as I did being on stage. It was like I was born to be there. Soon my time came to leave the band & I worked a few other jobs over the years until the day I met Jacob (Heidi don’t use my full name in a article)

Jake- I grew up in Duluth Mn as well my family had a deep love for country music. From a young age I taught myself to play guitar & would sing but only for my family and close friends. I graduated high school took a year off then Joined the Army for 6 years. I spent a lot of time playing & writing music. When there wasn’t anything to do I would memorize lyrics to my favorite songs by writing them all in a journal I kept while away.  I started driving truck over the road experiencing so many cool towns and different city’s I loved it but I wanted to spend more time focusing on my real passion music. I switched to the logging division or work & that’s when Heids & I’s paths just happened to cross.

2.     How did you guys come up with your name group “Whiskey Trail” and was there any other names you were going to choose instead?

We had our first show coming up and we did not want to be called Jake & Heidi or Hake, Jeidi.. so on so forth. So we made it our mission to come up with a name in a week. We literally were going on google and using band name generators because we were so desperate. Jake is a logging truck driver so he passes a lot of roads during his day (obviously). So him & his co worker were talking over the radio naming every road they passed by announcing them the way you would if you were introducing a band. “Please welcome to the stage Elm Street.” Then he saw it a little road called “Whiskey Trail” he said it over and over then called me. He said it and I laughed because one of the words I was trying to generate our band name with was Whiskey. Within 15 minuets I had made our Facebook page and marketing material the name just felt right. Our city puts together a survey at the end of the year where you vote of the best of every category. We Won the Best Band Name Category so I think that was a sign that we made the right choice (No pun intended).

3.     How did you guys form your group?

Heidi-  I had been approached by a good friend offering to help me find a guitar player to accompany me at small shows around the area. I hadn’t been professionally singing in years and I wasn’t sure that I was ready to do it again but I thought what the hell lets just see who shows up. I got to the audition & as I pulled into the drive way I see Jake. No lie time stopped, my mind went blank & I literally forgot how to speak. I opened the door and said “Hey you here for the audition?” Jake literally had a guitar in his hand and we were at the last driveway on the road… He smiled and said “Yes” because obviously he was.  We started our audition and he suggested we try a duet. I was kinda pissed… (but not why you think) because I am so picky when it comes to vocals & he was so cute that I didn’t want to have to tell him I didn’t like how he sings. He started the song & my heart literally fell to the floor. He could actually sing & when we harmonized together you would’ve thought we had known each other forever. I ran downstairs and told my friend that we didn’t need to do any other auditions I was hiring Jake.  I got home that night & told my roommate “I think I just met my husband.” We started dating a month later and have been together ever since.

4.     Is there anything coming up with your music for the rest of 2018?

This year we have already had the opportunity to open for some pretty amazing acts Parmalee being one. We also have some other opportunities coming up opening for some of Nashville’s newest artist. You can keep up to date with all of that on our event calendar on Facebook. We also hope to do some recording this year so we can share our music on ITunes, Spotify, etc.

5.     Who are some of your musical icons?

Garth Brooks, Little Big town, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, George Strait.

6.     Where do you guys see yourselves in the next 5 to 10 years with your music?

I hope we just keep getting the opportunity to do what we love, until we cant any longer. Sitting with Jake & his guitar is where I call home. No matter who we become or where we go I know I already hit the jackpot by being with him.

7.     What are a few of your favorite quotes?

“Why blend in when you’re born to stand out.” “Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.” “Closed minds cant see open doors.”

8.     Is there anything  you guys would like to share?

We are always looking to branch out of our surrounding area. We want to travel &  collaborate with as many musicians, Song writers, producers as we can. You can feel free to find us on our website Whiskeytrailband.com, Facebook, Instagram, & Vero.
