I grew up on a small farm in Minnesota, the farm has been in my family for over 100 years, my dad still lives on the same land. My Dad and Uncle had a Southern Rock band, they farmed together and played music together. Most of my earliest memories are with them in the tractors or watching them practice in the garage. I started playing drums on a Mickey Mouse kit and buckets at the age of 4. I was hooked all the way back then!
Like I said, I grew up on a farm. The tractors, the shop, the truck, no matter where we were country radio was on. My Dad and Uncle had a Southern Rock band but were very influenced by country as well. Charlie Daniels, Hank Williams, Lynyrd Skynyrd some of the favorites. I was very into rock as well, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana! I have always been a lover of songwriting and telling stories with words. Country to me is the ultimate storytelling vehicle. Once I started writing songs I felt the natural pull towards writing country songs cause it’s in my upbringing and my blood.
I wrote this song with Craig Wiseman, he was named “Songwriter of the Millennium” he wrote songs like Tim McGraw “Live Like You Were Dying”, Kenny Chesney “Summertime” “Good Stuff” Blake Shelton “Boys Round Here”. I was nervous to work with him since he’s such country music and songwriting royalty. I had always wanted to write a song about my tattoos and why I got them. I had some of the chords and a rough sketch of some lyrics I brought in and Craig helped me craft it all together and came up with the title “Sleeves”. I’m so proud of this song because it’s so honest and means so much to me.
Icon is a big word, for that I would say Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Kurt Cobain, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, John Lennon, Paul McCartney. In the country world, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr., Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, Garth Brooks I’m such a fan of so much.
We may release another song to Spotify before the end of the year but since Sleeves JUST came out we are gonna stick with that one for now. The full EP will be released everywhere in 2018, it’s available physical CD only at live shows at the moment.
Well I hope to continue releasing music and playing gigs all over the country and the world, building my fanbase as long as people still want to listen:)
I’d love to do a song with Blake Shelton, I love his sense of humor and voice.
He sings with a smile and so do I.
Today you are you. That is truer than true. No one is alive that is youer than you. -Dr. Suess
Just excited to keep sharing music and playing shows! Grateful to be on this journey. Thanks for listening!
