Country singer/songwriter Vanessa Marie Carter was born in B.C. and grew up in Oakville, ON. Carter has been singing since she was eight years old. Her singing career started in musical theatre. Carter’s love for country music comes from her family. Her uncles and cousins are well-known musicians.
Carter graduated from Wilfred Laurier University in 2011 and signed a recording deal with independent label in 2012. In the last three years Carter has got the chance to be an opening acts for country musicians Kira Isabella, Brett Kissel and The Band Perry. While opening up for The Band Perry, Carter won the Sepoy Saloon Showdown Contest. She then went back to the studio to finish up her debut EP in the summer of 2015.
In August of 2016, Carter won the coveted Emerging Artist Competition at the significant Canadian Boots and Heart Festival, originally by winning the fan voting portion with over 47, 200 fan votes and then winning the live singing competition at the festival, beating 6 other artists. After winning the 2016 Emerging Artist Winner, she opened for Chase Rice. After the festival in August 2016, Carter received a prize package, which was a record deal contract from Universal Music.
