Kalsey Kulyk~ Q & A!!!

1.     Hi Kalsey, can you tell me a little bit about yourself before you became a country singer?

Well to be Honest, I’ve been singing country music since I was three years old so I really don’t know how I was before then! 🙂 but music has always been apart of my life. I could never really see myself without it.

2.     How did you get into country music and how did you know you wanted a career in it?

I grew up in a small town in Canada that had one radio station that played only Country, so I guess you could say it was that. But also, my family LOVED country music and always had it playing so I just naturally loved it as well.

3.     Who are some of your musical icons?

When I was growing up I wanted to be just like Shania! Then I got older and really appreciated the songwriters. Dolly, willie, hank and a bunch more from that time. I also have a huge love for Jackson Browne. What a poet.

4.     What is the story behind your song “Sing and Be Heard?”

Well, SING AND BE HEARD is a saying that my mom helped me come up with. I believe that every single person has a story and that they should never hold back when it comes to letting that story be told. Let your true self shine and never be ashamed of who you are.

5.     Is there anything else coming up with your music for the rest of 2017?

Actually I was Nominated for a Canadian Country Music award, for Discovery artist so I’m really excited to play at the CCMA’s this year and be involved with that. I’ve been living in Nashville for the last year and it’s been absolutely incredible getting to write with some big songwriters as well. I’ve got a lot of that going on this year as well as some red carpet events in L.A!

6.     If you could sing a duet with a famous singer or group who would it be and why?

If I could sing a duet with anyone I think I’d love to sing a song with Jason Isbell. I just love his voice and think he’s such a great singer songwriter!

7.     Where do you see yourself in the next 5 to 10 years with your music?

I just had this asked to me! I’ve made a goal list. And a few of the goals are to open up for a major country act in the next three years, be signed to a major record label with in two, release my first full length album, write a song with Travis Meadows and be a headliner in my first world tour in 7 years. Open up a dog haven for homeless dogs and give them all the love and care they need.

8.     What is one of your favorite quotes?

SING AND BE HEARD 🙂

Chris Stapleton~ Concert Review!!!

So much has changed for Chris Stapleton in the last two years since his debut album “Traveller” was released. Nowadays, Stapleton’s stages, crowds and venues are growing, as seen on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Los Angeles Forum.

At around 9 p.m., the stage turned an amber red color as Stapleton, his wife, Morgane, and three band members started to play the opening notes of “Might As Well Get Stone.” The fans in the crowd started to sing right along with Stapleton and continued on through the night.

Stapleton also sang “Midnight Train to Memphis” from the 2008 debut of his former band, SteelDrivers. While singing this song Stapleton showed off his great guitar skills. It is neat to see Stapleton sings songs like “Outlaw State of Mind” and “Death Row” which showcases his unique country twang that many other artists cannot even reach.

I really enjoyed when Stapleton sang an acoustic verison of his hit song “Whiskey and You.” During this performance Stapleton’s voice was strong and it was also neat to see how far his range of his vocals could go. Next he sang his song “Parachute” which is a mixture of soul and southern rock. Stapleton then performed his cover of Charlie Daniels’ single “Was It 26,” which was potent and lively.

Stapleton’s wife Morgane’s did a bluesy solo cover of one of my personal favorites, “You Are My Sunshine.” Morgane’s pure voice was heard throughout the song especially in the third verse. Stapleton ended his show with more new material, as well as some old favorites like “Fire Away.” This song showcases the flexibility and dedication of Stapleton’s love for country music.

His show started off right around 7 p.m. with opening acts, Lucie Silvas, a British country singer, and Marylands duo, Brothers Osborne. Brothers Osborne played a45 minute set including their own popular hits “21 Summer” and “Stay a Little Longer.” It was a wonderful night of country music with three talented acts that I feel have long lasting careers in the country music scene.

Dixie Top Favorite Songs of May 22, 2017

  1. Phoebe Hunt~ “Just For Tonight”: “Just for Tonight” is about a new beginning and seeing today as the first time rather than holding onto what happened in the past or what’s is next to happen in the future.
  2. Brinn Black “ Daddy’s Medicine”: “Daddy’s Medicine” is a strong ballad that tells the true story of living with a father who struggles with alcohol.
  3. Mitchell Tenpenny “Bitches”: “Bitches” tells the story of a woman that has done a guy wrong and he is just done with it. This song also shows how he is going to get over this woman and what she did to him.
  4. Jacob Davis “What I Wanna Be”: “What I Wanna Be” is an introduction song to describe Davis as a country artist.
  5. Gyth Rigdon~ “Body Language”: “Body Language” is about a guy who trying to see if a girl is in him and the only way they can do that is to get together and see if they can be more than just friends.

Stephen Paul’s Duck Wrap Recipe!!!

1.  Marinate deer steak in your choice of marinade (Italian dressing, Worcestershire, and any type of steak prepping sauce) for 30-1hour. You can do more of less depending on how “gamey” you want the meat to taste. I don’t go any more than an hour.
2. Once marinated, cut the steaks in small squares (as long as they are big enough to fold up like a taco)
3. Put a dab of cream cheese and a slice of jalapeño on the steak, wrap with bacon, wrap it like a taco, and put a couple of toothpicks in the side to hold in place.
4.  Can bake at 350 for about 20 min but I prefer grilling. Place on the grill and grill until the bacon is cooked. If the bacon burns a little bit, that’s okay!

Stephen Paul Q & A!!!

Questions:

1.     Hello Stephen, can you tell me a little bit about yourself before you became country singer?

2.     Who are some of your musical icons?

3.     How did you choose the title for your latest EP “Louisiana Heat” and what is your favorite song off the EP?

4.     If you could sing a duet with a famous singer or group who would it be and why?

5.     Is there anything else coming up with your music for the rest of 2017?

6.     What is one of your favorite quotes?

7.     Where do you see yourself in the next 5 to 10 years with your music?

Answers:

1. Well I grew up playing sports, primarily baseball and football. I started college at Louisiana Tech and finished up at ULM with a mathematics degree. I worked in insurance for about a year after college before I decided to make the leap for Nashville and make music my full time job. I started playing the drums around the age of three, and picked up the guitar and started songwriting towards the end of 2012.
2. Tim McGraw and Marc Broussard are some of my musical heroes, and both happen to be Louisiana boys!
3. Well it’s going to be impossible to pick a favorite song off the EP because I love them all in different ways. I chose “Louisiana Heat” as my title track because I wanted to represent where I’m from and how I’m proud to be from Louisiana. And plus, the song is so dang fun to sing and play!
4. I would say singing a duet with Tim or Marc would definitely be a bucket list item since I admire them so much and their music.
5. I am continuing to write and prepare for the next EP or album I release (no dates set). Also, we are working hard to get this show on the road and get to playing in front of all of the fans!
6. Luke 1:37 “For with God, nothing is impossible”
7. The ultimate goal is to be playing to 20,000 fans across the globe, but ultimately I just want to create music that people can relate to. At the end of the day, if my music can make an impact on someone’s life, then I’ve done my job
