Kate Grom~ “Heroine”~ Album Review!!!

HEROINE_COVER_FINAL_ART.jpg

I am so happy to have up and coming country artist Kate Grom is a part of my blog. Grom, debut album, Heroine is a meaningful and is great to listen to all year long. Also this album is both rustic and improved with a pedal steel guitar and also is has moony type of atmosphere and feels like you are sitting on your back porch while listening to some great country music.

In Grom’s debut single “Whiskey Cry,” Grom’s voice is raw and she is making the song her own and does not sound like any other country artists that I have ever heard. The melody of this song is embracing and the instrument of a guitar sounds great in the background of this song. In her song “Tricks” it is more upbeat, which works perfect with the lyrics. The track “Under the Gun” is one of the album’s most “graphic” songs that is affected and also powerful, when Grom gets to show how high her vocal range can go. “The Storm” is a touching and moving song and the lyrics fit the mood and melody perfectly to the title of Grom’s album name.

This album is enjoyable to listen to and many people can relate to the lyrics of each song. I feel I could listen to this album multiple times in one day and would never get sick of listening to it. So if you love discovering new country musicians like I do then go take a listen to it. If you would also like to find out more Kate Grom then check out her website www.kategrom.com.

Blane Howard~ Q & A!!

Blane-Howard-Promise-To-Love-Her-2-e1489677400442

  1. Hi Blane, can you tell me a little bit about yourself before you became country musician?

Well, I grew up in Hot Springs, AR and in High School I played Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track and also sang in the choir. I earned All-State honors in Track and All-County honors in Football and also earned multiple All-Region and All-State honors in Choir. My family spent a lot of time on the golf course as well because my Dad is a PGA Professional and also manages out local country club. I decided not to play football or run track in college and instead attended Belmont University to pursue a degree in Music & Vocal Performance, and thats what brought me to Nashville.

  1. How did you get into country music and when did you know you wanted a career in it?

I attended Belmont to learn as much as a could about singing, music and the industry in Nashville but I think when I Was about 16 or 17, I decided I wanted to audition for Belmont and pursue it as a career choice. I always grew up singing, but the move to Belmont is what got me officially started.

  1. Who are some of your musical icons?

I grew up listening to all different genres of music. While it was mostly country, I also listened to Pop, Rock and Roll, Jazz, R&B, Motown, Gospel, you name it! In country, my biggest influences were Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, and Ronnie Dunn. I also learned a lot from vocalists Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Freddie Mercury, Elton John, and bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd, and AC/DC.

  1. What is the story behind your newest single “Promise to Love Her?”

The story is, I wanted to write a song for my wife as a gift for our wedding. I came up with the idea of “Promise To Love Her” being the hook, and each verse having the line told to a different person. 1) Her father 2) The preacher 3) The doctor bringing in the baby girl (future).

No one had ever heard it but me and my co-writer Jordan Reynolds. I surprised her with it on the morning of our wedding, then she made me use it as our first dance, so everyone got to hear it for the first time that day, and the rest is history I guess!

  1. Is there anything else coming up with your music for the rest of 2017?

I have a pretty full schedule coming up, but the highlights are The Peach Festival in Gaffney, SC on July 14, opening for Josh Turner on August 5, a week long residence at the State Fair of Texas in October with a lot of others shows mixed in. My full schedule can be found on my website, wwwblanehoward.com

  1. If you could sing a duet with a famous singer or group who would it be and why?

Alan Jackson, because he’s my musical icon, or some amazing vocalist like Kelly Clarkson or Vince Gill.

  1. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 to 10 years with your music career?

I hope to be on a major nationwide tour with multiple #1 hits under my belt.

  1. What is one of your favorite quotes?

“All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. ”
~Walt Disney “Do or do not. There is no try.” -Yoda (Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back)

Blane Howard is a Nashville recording country artist who grew up in south central Arkansas. After attending high school, he decided to follow his dream of singing professionally and moved to Nashville. He attended Belmont University that is where he met most of his band members, and graduated in 2010. Howard has been touring the mid south region for many years and also been making a name for himself in the music industry. When he is not touring, he stays busy writing new songs with other musicians and songwriters in Nashville.

At the age of 3, Howard in front of his TV set at home, would sing along with country singer Alan Jackson “Chasin That Neon Rainbow.” Howard had also got the honor of opening shows for country artists like Blake Shelton, Hunter Hayes, Joe Nichols and Travis Gritt. He has played in all different types of venues, fairs and festivals and other events like the Arkansas Sate Fair, the 2015 State Fair of Texas, and the 2015 and 2016 CMA Fest Showcases. Howard was also named IMP- Independent Musicians Promotions 2015 Country Artist of the Year, and his music video for “Crazy” was awarded Judges Pick at Indi this summer.

“Bout Time” is the title track off Howard’s first EP, which came out in January 2013 and has been a fan favorite along with his song “She’s a Mess.” In 2014 Howard wrote a song for Arkansas Tourism titled “Arkansas, Y’all,” then he re wrote the lyrics and made a Razorback verison and licensed it with the University of Arkansas. You can hear this song on many different radio stations across the state as well as sporting events on the campus. Howard’s most recent release was his first full-length studio album in June 2015 titled “Away We Go.” There are many wonderful songs on this album.

2016 has also been a great year for Howard with lots of new venues and shows added to his schedule. Howard has also extended into the Austin market with a performance at the Red Gorilla Music Festival in March and added shows in Kyle and Pflugerville, Texas. Howard opened the 2016 StarDaze Festival in Star City, Arkansas for headliner Granger Smith. He also opened for Hunter Hayes at the Timberwood Amphitheater in Hot Springs Arkansas. Howard’s biggest gig of 2016 was his wedding day in late October. Howard surprised his bride-to-be, Megan and everyone else, on the morning of their wedding with a new song he had written for her. He collaborated with long time friend and songwriter, Jordan Kyle Reynolds, on what turned out to be a special and very touching song, “Promise to Love Her.” Megan rapidly asked for the new song to be their “first dance” song.

A few days after the wedding, with a small short phone video clip from the reception, Team Blane shared the clip of the song on Howard’s Facebook music page and nothing’s been the same since. The short clip received 100,000 views in just a few short weeks and rose to over half a million views on Facebook. The official music video for “Promise to Love Her” was released on March 6, 2017 and shot to 1 million views on Facebook in just 2 weeks. The single released on March 10th and has been picked up by many small and mid-size radio markets.

By themselves they had recorded songs for some of the biggest country acts, including Jo Dee Messina, Joey & Rory and Mindy McCready. They had also written songs with Dave Haywood from the group Lady Antebellum, Kelsea Ballerini and Jana Kramer.

Together, thanks to a wonderful fan base, singer/songwriters Morgan Leigh Garner and Courtney Dashe are a match made in music heaven. Their group is named after their four day apart daughter Hadley and Parker. They were formed in 2014 and their first single “Things I Learned,” was co-written with 10 year-old, two-time cancer fighter Kaleb Leigh. Many country artists like Martina McBride and Rodney Atkins have shared Leigh’s story on their social media pages.

Garner and Dashe are also official partners with Cure Search for Children’s Cancer since June 2016. A portion of proceeds from their shows on their “That’s Another Bottle Wine” tour has been going directly to this organization to help with different research studies.

Hadley Park~ Q & A!!!

itunes-cover_1

  1. Hello Ladies, can you tell me a little bit about yourselves and how you got into country music?

Morgan: I grew up in the music industry in Nashville. My dad wrote songs for a living and all growing up; I just wanted to be as cool as him some day.

Courtney:  I grew up in CA with a family that made me believe if you worked hard enough, you could be and do anything. People always told me I had “this country thing” in my voice when I’d sing at school functions, so I started really checking out country music and falling in love with it.  I applied early decision to college in Nashville, got in and never looked back.  It was my excuse to get to Nashville. My poor parents probably thought I’d outgrow the music dream while I was in college…  but that never happened.

  1. How did you come up with your group name and was there any other names you were maybe going to be pick instead?

Hadley Park: Our entire friendship has been a series of serendipitous events.  We met (before we were pregnant) in the summer of 2013 at a blind co-write that was set up by producer Paul Worley’s office, and we became fast friends.  That fall we found out that we were both, coincidentally, pregnant (Courtney due in July, and Morgan due in June), which bonded us even more.   Our girls were born 4 days apart and we started writing weekly (with them in the room and sometimes literally attached), so when we started kicking around the idea of recording some music together, it just seemed right to honor the two little ones who really brought us together in the first place, Hadley and Parker… thus the creation of Hadley Park. They motivate and inspire us daily and are truly the best part of our lives.  We live every day hoping to be the best mothers we can to them while also modeling for them how to go after what makes you tick… we like to think of it as chasing our dreams and little ones too.

3. Who are some of your guys’ musical icons?

Hadley Park: Well there are too many amazing artists who came before us to mention. Both of us are big fans of 90s (and before) country, but we both love all types of music.

Morgan: I listened to a lot of James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, Tim McGraw, Dixie Chicks and Vince Gill growing up. But also had a big love for Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Hootie and the Blow Fish, Counting Crows….. Currently, my playlists are mostly Maren Morris and Kacey Musgraves… with a sprinkle of Cam, Chris Stapleton and the Zac Brown Band.

Courtney:  I grew up on Beach Boys & Buffett, thanks to my parents, and there is a recording of me floating around singing “I’m going to hire a wino to decorate our home” at age 3 or 4 (thanks Dad), so my country roots can be credited to him.  I was a huge fan of big singers in the 90’s… Whitney, Mariah, Celine… but the irony is that I’ve never have that kind of a voice.  Part way through high school I really started getting into country artists like Martina, Faith, Dixie Chicks & Deanna Carter, but after college, I truly became a fan of songwriters.  I have a million writers I am such fans of, and you probably wouldn’t know who they are, but I just love their songs.

  1. Where do you guys see yourselves in the next 5 to 10 years with your music?

Hadley Park: We’ve always said that as long as we are having fun, we will keep on doing what we are doing. We have such a great time writing and performing together as well as strategizing and trying to grow our brand. We see ourselves more established in our careers…. and with adolescent kids! AHHHH!!!  So crazy!  Don’t need that to happen too fast!

5.  If you guys could sing a duet with a singer or group whom would it be and why?

Hadley Park:  We feel like we’re the married version and voice of Taylor Swift… we write and sing things that are very true to what we are going through in life at this moment and hope she’d appreciate our music.  We definitely appreciate hers and would kill to sing a duet with her.  We also think a duet with Jimmy Buffett would be completely awesome.  … and then there are some of our childhood idols like Sheryl Crow (Courtney) and James Taylor (Morgan)… but we may get intimidated by them ha!  It’d also be cool to sing with Crystal Gayle or Reba… because both of them were such strong figures in Country Music and Morgan’s dad wrote their biggest songs.

  1. Is their anything new happening with your music for the rest of 2017?

Hadley Park: Right now we are focusing on releasing our new music video for “Another Bottle of Wine” (May) and going on tour this summer.  We’re even planning the first ever Hadley Park Songwriter’s Festival with Barrel Oak Winery in VA (Aug. 26th) to benefit CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, something we’re very passionate about.

  1. What are some of your favorite songs that you guys ever recorded?

Morgan: My most favorite song that we’ve written and recorded is called “More Than That.”  It is such a vulnerable song about real marriage.  It’s a total cry for love.  We all have ups and downs in our relationships…and this song is about the lowest of the low.  It’s not a breakup song. which is what I like about it. It’s like the song before the break-up….or the make-up… a cry for help. My second favorite is “Another Bottle of Wine.”  It is so us, as writers. We are just a couple goof balls who either write insanely serious songs or tongue-and-cheek-shoot-your-husband kind of songs.

Courtney:  I’d agree with her choices!  I also love “Retrospect.”  It’s a vibey, sexy, positive relationship song, and those tend to be hard to write well, but I’m really proud of it!  Once we started working on it, the entire vision for our EP just started coming into view for me, so this song will always be special for that reason.

  1. What are some of your favorite quotes?

“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat on you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.” – Mother Teresa.
