  1. Hello, can you give me a little bit of background about your clothing line?

City Roots in Boots is an idea that has evolved over the last few years. My brother and I both share a love for country music, concerts and festivals.  We also both have a background in marketing and promotions.  I started selling custom designed cowgirl/cowboy hats on Etsy “Sarah’s Country Crowns.” From that I gained a decent social media following. I then added a few shirt designs to my store and got a great response.  My brother and I then decided it was time to take it to the next level, create our own website and make this an official business!  We went into business together, got licensed, changed the name and it all started from there!

  1. How did you decide on the name City Roots in Boots, was there any other names that you were thinking about?

The name “City Roots in Boots” just fell into place perfectly.  It’s something that just popped into my head.  Being that we are “country” from the music we listen to, the way we live our lives, the style of clothes we like, always wearing our boots…. but there’s no getting around the fact that we live in the city (about 45 minutes outside of Los Angeles).  We played around with a few variations of the name; got friends and family’s opinions, and we just knew it had to be “City Roots in Boots”!  The name has been so well received by both country fans living in big cities and those who are living in actual small country towns.  I couldn’t imagine it being named anything different.

  1. Where do you see City Roots in Boots in the next 5 to 10 years?

In the next 5-10 years we hope to do the Country Music Festival circuit, where we travel around to all of the major festivals around the country and be a vendor at each one.      We hope to one day open a storefront and expand from there.

  1. What are a few accomplishments that you are most proud about so far for City Roots in Boots?

We are most proud of how much this business has grown in a short amount of time.  We are also proud of the relationships we have built professionally and personally through this business.  We consider our customers and fans family and love getting to meet so many of them in person at events and concerts.

  1. Has any famous country artists wore your clothing items?

Brooke Eden is a big fan and has worn a few of our shirts on stage and out and about. We absolutely love her!

We love supporting up and coming artists and bands being that we are a growing brand as well. We have a great, supportive “California Country” family that consists of several local bands that have been so great to us who wear and promote our clothing.

We hope to get some headliners in our gear very soon who will rep us on and off stage!

  1. What is one of your favorite event (s) to be part of?

Honestly, our favorite event is whatever our next one is! We love being able to show our items in person and meet so many of our customers!  We’ve been a part of several great events so far and hope to add to the list this next year.

  1. Is there anything new coming up with your company? 2016? 2017?

We already have so much planned for 2017!  Lots of new shirt designs! We hope to do a lot more events where you will be able to come see our merchandise in person. Hoping to team up with more artists and bands. And ultimately just continue to grow the brand!

  1. What is the first item you ever made for City Roots in Boots?

The first shirt design we ever came up with was “TAILGATING IS MY CARDIO.” It is still a great seller today!  It’s a saying that most all country music concertgoers can relate to.

  1. What advice would you give to an up and coming country clothing company?

It’s a lot of work!  Social media is key. Be original. Unfortunately, there are a lot of copycats and there’s not much you can do about it.  It kills us to see our original sayings and designs being copied and sold.  But instead of getting upset about it, we allow it to push us to be better.  Build good relationships.  It’s all about helping each other.  It’s a business that has it’s up and downs. Sometimes sales are coming in like crazy and sometimes they’re not. You just have to keep adjusting and thinking of ways to stay relevant.

  1. What is one of your favorite quotes?  “Always stay Humble and Kind”  -Tim McGraw

P.S.: If you want to buy a clothing item or find out more about City Roots in Boots then checkout their website www.cityrootsinboots.com. My personal favorite item from this company is the tank top “If Found Return To Nearest Country Music Festival!” I was lucky enough to meet Sarah Johnson owner of “City Roots in Boots”, at a Boots on Stage event at the Santa Anita Racetrack. Johnson was so kind and excited that I wanted to showcase her company on my blog. I hope that many more good things are in the future for this great country apparel company.
